This issue of ISPRS highlights is the last before our Centenary year. Throughout the year one could have sensed the spirit of the festivities. Year 2009 is the centenary year for the ISPRS German ordinary, the 75th anniversary of the American Ordinary member and the 50th Jubilee of the French Ordinary member - and there is nothing ordinary with these and all other extraordinary, contributing and supporting ISPRS members.
This year was a good year also in terms of revisited projects and ISPRS mission:
The Student Consortium carried its 4th summer School in Warsaw; The Siberian State Academy for Geodesy (SSGA), MiGAIIK and Wuhan University signed a MoU under the auspices of ISPRS. In accordance, ISPRS will run a Summer Student Seminar (3S), in July 2010 at Novosibirsk. This is envisaged to be held every three years at the campuses of the three universities; This November, at the ICA congress, ten (10) ISPRS members from Latin America will join together with the Latin America Regional Representative, Myriam Ardila-Torres of Columbia. A Student Seminar (similar to the 3S) will be discussed there among other; Reiterating these ideas, with the support of Jide Kufoniyi, ISPRS regional coordinator for Africa is envisaged to initiate such 3S seminar series in Africa as well. Joining GIS-Africa for the second time and endorsing LARS (Latin America Remote Sensing) 2010 conference is another proof to the ever growing efforts ISPRS is giving cross border out reach and educating young people.
Year 2010 seems then to be one of the most promising years of ISPRS since its inauguration in on July 4, 1910. In addition to the new two and possibly three annual or bi-annual events (3S in Novosibirsk, LARS in Santiago the Chile, and another 3S in Mexico), there are going to be held eight Commissions symposia, a couple single- and multi- WG Workshops, in addition to regional conferences and symposia. Also planned for next year is the centenary celebration in Vienna to honor the founding father of ISPRS, Prof. Dr. Eduard Doležal. This will start already on July 2nd 2010 will continue with a special business meeting between ISPRS Members representatives on the 3rd and a special General Assembly on the 4th of July, 2010, 100 years to the date of the Inauguration of our Society. This is a good opportunity to wish all ISPRS Members, colleagues and friends a very successful, constructive, scientific and pragmatic Happy New (centenary) Year.
