South East Asia Regional Report 2009
04 Mar 2010

The South East Asia Region has in total 10 country members. Before October 2009, the Representative of the region was Dr. Suvit Vibulsresth from GISTDA, Thailand. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duong, Institute of Geography, VAST, Vietnam has been nominated as successor after Dr. Suvit Vibulsresth retirement.

In order to collect information on activities of country members I have tried to contact with all members using the email list provided by the GS Chen Jun. So far there was no response from members. I think communication is maybe one of obstacles for SEAR. I consider establishment of communication is the most important at this moment. I found that Myanmar representative has no email address. The address of Malaysian representative JUPEM seems incorrect because message sent has bounced.

My plan for next years is given below:
- Asian Association on Remote Sensing organizes annual conference in one country in the region. It could be possible to co organize some activities of Regional ISPRS members during the ACRS. Meeting of country representatives is one of alternatives.
- The ACRS2010 will be held in Hanoi from November 8-12 at the Hanoi National Conference Center. Invitation will be sent to all SEAR members. Small meeting could be organized for discussion how to promote ISPRS activities in the SEA. Hopefully the meeting will attend ISPRS President and GS.
- The Vietnam Association of Geodesy, Cartography and Remote Sensing VGCR agreed to host ISPRS Summer School at Halong bay. Detail of program and other logistic matters will be subject of discussion for SEAR members, Commission VI/ WG V and SC.

As I mentioned before keeping contact is the most important and I hope in the 2010 I will succeed to reestablish communication among members.

Finally I would like to inform you that the Vietnam Association of Geodesy, Cartography and Remote Sensing VGCR agreed to become sustaining ISPRS member.
