CSE is a Senegalese public interest association, under the control of the Ministry in charge of Environment. The mission of CSE is to collect, measure, process, analyze and circulate data and information over the national territory about natural resources and infrastructures in order to improve the management of natural resources and environment at all decision levels.
The sources of data are quite diverse and multiple. They include:
- Satellite images (Meteosat, NOAA, LANDSAT, SPOT, QuickBird...)
- Aerial photographs (ad hoc aerial photograph, systematic reconnaissance flights, airborne videography)
- Ground based surveys (inventories, GPS measurements, queries...)
The activities of CSE are organized along four guidelines:
- Environmental monitoring: monitoring of pastoral ecosystems, agricultural campaign monitoring, environment diagnosis studies, long term environment changes monitoring
- Mapping: Land cover and land use mapping, infrastructure and equipment mapping.
- Development of information systems: Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Environment Information Systems (EIS), Monitoring and Evaluation Systems.
- Training: periodic training in geomatics know-how and tools, ad hoc training sessions upon partners' request.
