Instituto Geográfico Português
IGP is the National Mapping and Cadastre Agency of Portugal. Therefore is responsible for the National Geodetic Network, Cadastre and Administrative Boundaries Official Map, for the production of several national map series, for implementing standards and regulations in Cartographic and Geographic Information (GI) production and quality control of GI products. It is also the official coordinator for the National System of Geographical Information, the Portuguese Spatial Data Infrastructure. IGP represents Portugal in several organizations such as ICA, Eurogeographics, Inspire Committee and IUGG among others. IGP has an important role in R&D, having in its statutes and duties a center for the research and development in GI.
PHOTOGRAMMETRY
Since the beginning of the second half of the 20th century the ancestors organizations of IGP established a strong structure of photogrammetric methods and equipment, being photogrammetry always part of its production lines. Nowadays photogrammetry is widely used at IGP for the orthophoto production, quality control, aerial triangulation and stereo plotting.
REMOTE SENSING
Remote sensing at IGP is mainly a research activity. There is at IGP a dedicated group carrying out activities of R&D in this area.
GIS
IGP is the National Contact Point for the INSPIRE directive implementation in Portugal. IGP promotes R&D in the geographical information science domain, mainly related to the management of geographical information in areas like environment and hazard prevention for support problem solving.
