The Institute of Engineering Surveying and Space Geodesy

The ISSGE ( The Institute of Engineering Surveying and Space Geodesy) has a world wide reputation for teaching and research in its field of activity. Although it was established through roots in engineering surveying and geodesy, it has been heavily involved with satellite positioning technology and for more than the last 15 years, photogrammetry and airborne remote sensing. This has involved both fundamental research and a wide range of applications. It's teaching has grown from undergraduate teaching on a B.Eng/M.Eng in Civil Engineering to present day MSc courses in Engineering Surveying and Geodesy, Satellite Positoning Technology, Navigation Technology and, Environmental Management and Earth Observation.

The IESSG has an established research and teaching portfolio in the general field of photogrammetry and remote sensing. Its research interests have been largely focused around airborne remote sensing and photogrammetry although it has undertaken research in the fields of close range photogrammetry, terresterial laser scanning and space borne remote sensing, in particular SAR. Recent research has included using laser scanning and advanced digital photogrammetry, both airborne and ground based for landscape and 3D urban modelling and information provision for flood inundation modelling. This has typically involved data integration and fusion, often within a GIS environment.
